General Information about Manzanillo
Beaches to visit
Manzanillo is mainly centered around the bays of Manzanillo and Santiago. The beaches of Manzanillo Bay include: Las Coloradas, El Viejo San Pedrito, Las Brisas, Playa Azul, Salagua, Las Hadas and La Escondida.
Santiago Bay is where you will find the most popular of the tourist beaches: La Audiencia, Santiago, Olas Altas, Miramar and La Boquita. All with fine sand and tranquil water.
The flavor of the sea
You can find marvelous sea food in the restaurants of nternational cuisine and in the traditional restaurants under thatched rooftops called “enramadas”. Among the most delicious dishes are the shellfish soup made with fish, shrimp, crab, lobster and octopus; and Colima style “ceviche” made with chopped sailfish, sawfish; grouped and snapper grilled and seasoned with spices.
Golf
Manzanillo has excellent golf courses that host a number of different international tournaments: Isla de Navidad, Club de golf del Hotel Las Hadas y Club Santiago.
Fishing
The Manzanillo sea, full of beauty is ideal for the practice of sport fishing, because Manzanillo is considered "The World's Capital of the Sailfish", one of the most appreciated specimens by this activity's worshipers. Besides, important international championships take place here constantly.
Climate and Weather
Manzanillo, the tourist core of the State of Colima, is a place that can be enjoyed all year long because the sun is an ally that shines almost daily with peculiar intensity, leaving its hot trace in the thermometers, whose annual averages oscillate between 22° and 23° celsius (minimum temperatures) and between 26° and 28° celsius (the maximums).
The heat is a lot more intense during the summer, between June and October. The temperature in these months is above 30o celsius with a maximum bordering 35o C; there are usually sporadic downpours that refresh Manzanillo in this climatic era, perhaps in order to soothe the effects of the scorching sun.
In general terms the weather in this tourist destination is considered as sub humid, very warm and with minimal moisture. Its annual average regarding rainfalls is of between 800 and 1200 mm.
